About the Forum

The NZ–CN Gut Health & Functional Recovery Forum is an international academic platform established by Aroha Gut Health Trust to promote scientific dialogue and collaboration between New Zealand and China in the fields of gut microbiome research, gastrointestinal health, and functional recovery.

The forum brings together clinicians, researchers, and healthcare professionals to exchange knowledge on emerging discoveries in microbiome science, recovery medicine, and integrative approaches to health. By fostering dialogue across disciplines, the forum aims to encourage collaboration that connects scientific research with clinical practice and public health outcomes.

The inaugural NZ–CN Gut Health & Functional Recovery Forum was successfully held in Auckland, New Zealand, bringing together experts from both countries to discuss advances in gut microbiota, recovery science, and translational health research.

Building on this foundation, the 2nd NZ–CN Gut Health & Functional Recovery Forum will be held in Shanghai, China (19–21 June 2026) as part of a major national academic programme associated with leading gastrointestinal oncology and minimally invasive surgery conferences in China. This setting provides an important opportunity for international experts to engage with a broad community of clinicians and researchers focusing on colorectal and gastrointestinal health.

Through this ongoing platform, Aroha Gut Health Trust seeks to strengthen long-term academic exchange between New Zealand and China, encourage multidisciplinary collaboration, and contribute to the advancement of evidence-based approaches to gut health and functional recovery.

A Vision for Scientific Collaboration

At the heart of this forum lies a shared recognition that gut health plays a central role in human wellbeing. Growing scientific evidence highlights the influence of the gut microbiome on digestion, immunity, metabolic regulation, and recovery following illness or medical treatment.

Despite significant progress in microbiome science, important challenges remain in translating research discoveries into practical healthcare applications. The NZ–CN Forum therefore provides a platform where clinicians and researchers can explore new connections between microbiology, clinical medicine, nutrition, and recovery science.

The forum aims to:

• Promote academic exchange between New Zealand and China
• Encourage multidisciplinary collaboration across medicine, microbiology, and nutrition science
• Support the translation of scientific research into clinical and practical health solutions

Why This Matters

As gastrointestinal diseases and colorectal cancer continue to represent major global health challenges, greater collaboration between research communities and clinical practitioners has become increasingly important.

The NZ–CN Gut Health & Functional Recovery Forum serves as a platform for international dialogue, helping to connect scientific discovery with clinical insight and real-world health needs.

Through this initiative, Aroha Gut Health Trust hopes to contribute to the development of stronger global cooperation in gut health research and functional recovery science.
