Dr. Wasilwa Baraza

Dr. Wasilwa Baraza is a UK-trained general and colorectal surgeon with subspecialty expertise in laparoscopic colorectal and pelvic floor surgery. He completed his general surgical training in Yorkshire, UK, and further subspecialist training in Auckland. In 2015, he was appointed Consultant at Manchester University NHS Foundation Trust and held an honorary clinical lectureship at the University of Manchester.

During his tenure in the UK, Dr. Baraza developed a particular interest in the management of early rectal cancer, pelvic floor disorders, and abdominal wall hernias. He also played a significant role in surgical education and training, serving as the Course Director for the Health Education England NW Cadaveric Simulation Course and advising the General Medical Council on regulating physician associates.

In April 2023, Dr. Baraza relocated to Auckland, New Zealand, where he practices at the Auckland Colorectal Centre, Endoscopy Auckland, and Allevia Hospitals. He is also a Senior Lecturer at the University of Auckland. His clinical interests include colorectal cancer, inflammatory bowel disease, anorectal disorders, pelvic floor pathology, and hernia surgery. In his public practice, he is a member of the colorectal cancer, pelvic floor, and abdominal wall hernia multidisciplinary teams.

Dr. Baraza is actively involved in research, with interests in pelvic floor surgery, surgical gerontology, and surgical endoscopy. He has been widely published in his field and invited to speak at international conferences.
