Dr Gary Wu is a highly experienced New Zealand-trained General Practitioner with a deep commitment to holistic primary care, preventive health, and multicultural community service. He graduated with an MB ChB from the University of Otago in 2003 and completed his GP registrar training in Hamilton/Te Awamutu, attaining membership with the Royal NZ College of GPs in 2006.
Dr Wu brings a diverse background in both hospital-based acute care and long-term primary care. Early in his career, he worked in emergency and inpatient settings across Dunedin Public Hospital and Royal Prince Alfred Hospital in Sydney. These formative years gave him a foundation in urgent care, procedural medicine, and surgical diagnostics, which he later combined with a passion for chronic care and family medicine.
Dr Wu has a special interest in:
-
Minor surgery and hands-on procedural care
-
Child and adolescent health, with a focus on pediatric wellbeing
-
Chronic disease management, including diabetes and cardiovascular risks
-
Community outreach & health promotion, especially for migrant populations
He is multilingual, speaking English, Mandarin, and two additional dialects, and moved to New Zealand as a teenager, giving him deep personal insight into the immigrant experience. This cultural empathy, combined with his professional excellence, has made him a trusted physician in both mainstream and culturally diverse communities.
In addition to clinical duties, Dr Wu is a strong advocate for public health education, regularly delivering talks on cardiovascular health, lifestyle diseases, and wellness strategies. He also contributes to local health initiatives that aim to bridge gaps in healthcare accessibility and understanding.
