Prof. Peirong Ding is a leading expert in colorectal cancer diagnosis and treatment, currently serving as the Deputy Director of the Department of Colorectal Surgery at Sun Yat-sen University Cancer Center (SYSUCC). As a Chief Surgeon, Professor, and Doctoral Supervisor, he has made significant contributions to both clinical practice and scientific research in colorectal cancer. Recognized as one of Guangdong Province’s Distinguished Young Medical Talents, he has played a pivotal role in advancing minimally invasive surgical techniques, robotic surgery, and precision oncology for colorectal cancer.
Prof. Ding’s research focuses on molecular screening and immune heterogeneity in hereditary colorectal cancer, as well as predictive modeling and strategy optimization for neoadjuvant therapy in rectal cancer using multi-omics technology. He has led multiple high-impact research projects, including grants from the National Natural Science Foundation of China, Guangdong Provincial Natural Science Foundation, Guangzhou Science and Technology Plan, and Sun Yat-sen University 5010 Project. As first or corresponding author, he has published over 40 research articles in prestigious journals such as Cell Research, Journal for ImmunoTherapy of Cancer, Journal of the National Cancer Institute, Annals of Surgery, and EBioMedicine.

As a key contributor to China’s Expert Consensus on the Clinical Diagnosis and Management of Hereditary Colorectal Cancer, the 2019 China Expert Consensus on Lateral Lymph Node Metastasis in Rectal Cancer, the Watch-and-Wait Strategy for Rectal Cancer after Neoadjuvant Therapy, and China’s Clinical Guidelines for Multidisciplinary Treatment of Liver Metastases from Colorectal Cancer, he has played an instrumental role in standardizing colorectal cancer treatment protocols across China.
Clinically, Prof. Ding specializes in minimally invasive colorectal cancer surgery, particularly in sphincter-preserving procedures for low rectal cancer. He has been at the forefront of robot-assisted colorectal surgery, continuously innovating to enhance surgical precision and patient outcomes.
