Professor Ping Lan is Vice President of Sun Yat-sen University and a distinguished colorectal surgeon specializing in colorectal cancer and inflammatory bowel disease. He is also Editor-in-Chief of the Chinese Journal of Gastrointestinal Surgery and a leading authority in minimally invasive colorectal surgery and translational research.
Professor Lan has devoted more than 30 years to colorectal surgery, with particular expertise in laparoscopic and minimally invasive procedures for colorectal cancer and inflammatory bowel diseases. He performs over 500 major surgeries annually, with extensive experience in sphincter-preserving surgery for low rectal cancer, treatment of recurrent colorectal cancer, and surgical management of Crohn’s disease and ulcerative colitis.
He is a Chief Scientist of the National Key Research and Development Program of China and a recipient of numerous prestigious honors, including the National Science and Technology Progress Award and the National Distinguished Physician Award (Zhuo Yue Jian Shu). His research focuses on tumor microenvironment, colorectal cancer development, and translational research in inflammatory bowel disease.
Professor Lan has published extensively in leading international journals and holds prominent roles in global academic communities. He is a Fellow of the American College of Surgeons (FACS) and a Fellow of the Royal College of Surgeons (FRCS). Through his clinical and academic leadership, he has made significant contributions to advancing colorectal surgery and gastrointestinal disease research in China and internationally.
